Welcome to Petra's Pottery
I love to create pieces of pottery for all occasions. Whether you need a wedding gift, functional ware or a piece of art, I invite you to take a look at just a few samples here on my website.
I began my pottery journey by taking part time courses through Canadore College in North Bay. I have also, over the years, had the pleasure of taking instruction from well established experienced potters, giving me a good solid base from which to hone my skills . I make sure each piece of handcrafted stoneware that leaves my studio is checked for the quality that I want my customers to have.
Whether you like earth tones or hints of jewel, the glazes I use cover a wide range of colours and designs and are microwave and dishwasher safe. It really is fascinating to mix different ground rock together to make a glaze, put it in a volcano like atmosphere and have the most beautiful things happen. It’s always exciting to open up the kiln and see what has transformed. I enjoy experimenting with glazes and strive to come up with unique and interesting combinations. Things are ever changing at Petra’s Pottery.
What started out as a part time endeavor has turned into a fulltime commitment with the building of a new workshop and gallery. There are over two hundred pieces of pottery to choose from in the gallery and when you visit you can see my new creations and get a glimpse of the process involved.
Along with my passion for pottery is my passion for living off the grid. My family and I have lived off the grid for over thirty years taking both our power and hot water from the sun. Behind each piece of Petra’s Pottery is the power of the sun.
